As we anxiously await new Science Standards, now is a good time to reflect on how we've been doing at teaching students to "think like a scientist". Problem-solving has been a key skill taught in science for eons and has also moved to the forefront of other content areas (ex. social studies inquiries). How are we "upping the ante" for science learning? Are we learning any "new tricks" or just recycling old lessons? Consider challenging yourself and your students this year with something new - something that you can both learn together - give them a problem that you don't know the answer to already; or have them investigate a question of their own design. Science is discovery, after all. Be brave and try it out - then let us know how it works out.
PLEASE SEND ME YOUR BLOG POSTS!
This is a great way to share science resources, best practices, examples of things you've tried and things you've learned (either the hard way or the easy way). You can use the contact tab on the left or just e-mail them to me at [email protected] Your colleagues will appreciate hearing about your "experiments" and the tools under your "like" menu.
